About Dogwood Hub Advisory
Learn about Dogwood Hub Advisory — established 2016, serving Australian small businesses with practical growth and operational consulting.
Registered business
Dogwood Hub Advisory Pty Ltd is the official registered business name. We were established in 2016 in Sydney to give owner-operated businesses access to structured advisory without the overhead of a large consultancy.
Our origin
The practice began when founder Helena Marsh, formerly a regional bank small-business lender, saw the same pattern repeatedly: capable owners making expansion decisions with incomplete pictures of capacity and margin. Dogwood Hub was set up as an independent practice — not affiliated with any lender or franchise — to provide neutral planning support tied to how small businesses actually run day to day.
What we believe
Growth should be deliberate. That means knowing which jobs or products fund the business, which ones drain it, and which opportunities require preparation before saying yes. We favour plain language, written plans, and follow-through over slide decks that gather dust.
Our team
Helena leads growth strategy and readiness audits. James Okonkwo handles positioning reviews and workshop facilitation. Priya Nair supports research, customer interview synthesis, and engagement documentation. We stay deliberately small so clients work directly with senior advisors.
Working approach
Engagements start with listening — your numbers, your staff dynamics, your local market. We document assumptions, test them in session, and leave you with priorities ranked by impact and effort. We do not sell software, memberships, or referral commissions. Our fee is the engagement.
Community
We contribute pro-bono session time each quarter to a local business chamber mentoring programme in Western Sydney and publish field notes drawn from anonymised advisory themes.
Credentials
Helena holds an MBA from UTS and spent twelve years in commercial lending before advisory work. James is a former retail operations manager. Priya holds a commerce degree and trained in qualitative research methods. We maintain professional indemnity insurance appropriate to consulting engagements in Australia.
